His Holiness Devamrita Swami’s Visit
June 8th marked the arrival of His Holiness Devamrita Swami in the Swansea temple. Many disciples, colleagues and spiritual seekers flocked to take in the divine instructions from this seasoned adept of divinity. With a twinkle in his eye he shared his realisations on topics like frustrated love, true happiness, and also warned the audience on the dangers of the mundane stories and songs.
On the 13th Maharaja extended his mercy to an aspiring disciple, bhakta Merlin, who had been waiting two and a half years for initiation. Here is a little video of the joyous occasion:
Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.87.33 purport states:
The spiritual master opens the eyes of the disciple to the wonders of the transcendental realm, as indicated in the Gayatri prayers by the seed mantra of divine knowledge, aim.
The Mundaka Upanishad (1.2.12) states,
tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet
samit-panih srotriyam brahma-nishtham
“To understand these things properly, one must humbly approach, with firewood in hand, a spiritual master who is learned in the Vedas and firmly devoted to the Absolute Truth.” And the Katha Upanishad (2.9) declares,
naisha tarkena matir apaneya
proktanyenaiva su-jnanaya preshtha
“This realization, my dear boy, cannot be acquired by logic. It must be spoken by an exceptionally qualified spiritual master to a knowledgeable disciple.”
